Sup homies! (I am so white. . .)
So if you've ever parked in a city, you know what this is like. And if you've ever driven in Boston, you know what that's like. Now if you've ever tried to park your car in Boston. . . its like this.
Panel 2 I drew his hand the right way, thought it looked weird and decided that the other way was right. 5 minutes before putting it up. . . I realized we should be able to see his thumb. Fail me.
Other than that I'm pretty pleased with how this comic came out.
Also, set up for the rest of the arc!
I'm doing pretty good with this updating business lately. Good for me yay!
I am supremely pleased with this page art wise. Partially because I had some help. You know who you are. You see, I realized that I was drawing a lot of inside the car scenes and I didn't want the cars to all be and look the same. So I had to come up with a good car to fit Trent. I had a wood paneling station wagon in mind. . . but then I settled on a car a friend of mine owns. The Crown Victoria, retired Police Interceptor. I find irony in the fact that my friend and Trent would own a popo-mobile.
I sit like Sam does in cars. Although she's 5'3" and I'm a lot taller.
By the way Bostonians, don't get offended at Sam or me. I live near Boston and I know its a pretty nice place to live. And is filled with a lot of self righteous a-holes who were told they were special one too many times. That is all.
Trent kind of looks like someone's mom in panel 3. Oops. His hair has been progressively getting longer the more I draw it. Almost time for a haircut.
First off, I dislike the art in the comic. The first 2 panels, not so bad. Then after that it goes down hill. And by the time you reach panel 5, its a black abyss made of stupid and fail. Sam is missing her freckles in panel 5. This was a combination of laziness and lack of trying. I apologize.
Some of you may recall that a while back, Trent had mentioned something about Sam and a cruise. Well the note that you can't read very well in Panel 1 alludes to the fact that her parents went on a cruise and left her home alone for Thanksgiving. She was supposed to go to her grandparents, but they forgot to buy her a ticket. Good thing she's in that phase of teenage life where she hates her family.
I really do like Trent's face in panel 5 . . . the one I drew in my sketchbook I mean.
Again, I apologize for the severe lack of effort art wise here. Hopefully it'll be better by Wednesday.
I'm actually really glad with how panel 1 turned out. I was worried that I wouldn't get a good position or their heights right or the arms would start looking weird. But it all worked out in the end.
Trent is really tall young man. Esther is a really short little old lady. I mean, Chris isn't very tall and he's taller than Esther. There must be a foot and a half between Trent and Esther.
Look at that! Backgrounds for everyone! I guess I've been putting more effort into these pages.
I put a ChrisFace on Trent. It kind of makes Trent look like a skeleton. But I do so love Trent's sunken cheeks.
Hopefully I'm back Monday! Then we really get this story arc going.
Super tired but super relieved that I managed to get a page up. And here it is huzzah!
That poster in the background is based off a real poster of a band that I'm pretty meh about. When designing it, I was having trouble coming up with a make believe band name but the solution and a little story popped into my head. Here it is:
Augustine hung up that band's poster because she's a big support the arts person. Chris listened to their demo CD. Now, Chris thought the guy on the poster (who pretty much is the band with his synth board) looked like a massive douche. When he listened to the music, he thought it was everything that was wrong with music in the modern day. So he put a sign over the band's name. It says 'Some douche's band.'
Chris also made the 'do not pester the employee's' sign.
In fact there are multiple signs over Raven's Closet. The polite ones were put up by Augustine and the rude ones are Chris'. No one else has their particular fondness for signs.
Trent is not a very creative force on his own. When left to his own devices he will end up in bad, worse, and terrible situations, as we will see. This is one of the reasons why Trent does not like being alone to begin with.
I like the cute goth girl in panel 4. She was a lot taller and thinner in my panelling sketch stage, but my pencil was fat when I drew her so now she's a bit more rounded. Still cute though.
Howdy di doo thar!?
Here I am all hyped up that I'm doing comics again and what do I do? I miss Monday's comic. And you know what, I'm going to miss Friday's too. To be fair though, I am on vacation. But lets see how this goes, shall we?
The <> means they're speaking in another language. This seems to be the universal symbol as such since Megatokyo back in the olden days. What language are they speaking in you may ask. Well the answer is simple: French.
Despite meeting him and getting along nicely, Jack is not very impressed with Chris. Jack in not very impressed with many people. It happens after a long time of living.
I had a GranMama. She was a spit fire of a woman. If Jack had a woman in mind when talking about his imaginary GranMama, it would be mine.
The art in this comic makes me happy. I think Aug looks better in this page than she did in the "Augustine is Hot" page. I'm also getting used to drawing Jack and his shiny ruffly hair. I had the unfortunate realization when I was drawing the last page that Jack just looks like a short version of Trent. I'm trying to get more differences between them. For instance: Trent will never look as angry as Jack.
And off I go!
Hopefully I'll see you guys all on Monday! It would be wonderful if I could on Friday but. . . I doubt it :
Grr. Arg. Life. And that is that and now this is this.
So apparently Jack and Chris got along pretty well in the car. Jack is very very old and has learned that when you are the size you are, getting along with people is better than not. But luckily, the common ground between them isn't so small.
With that said, Jack is not very fond of Jess. But she likes him just fine.
In my head I have renamed this page the 'Augustine is Hot' page. She does not wear form fitting jeans often or a collared shirt, so I took advantage of the situation. She also looks a lot less menacing with her hair pulled back like that.
Ah, yes. Has this ever happened to you? Your sitting just doing nothing and hanging out with someone you have no interest in being with and/or have not noticed before. Then you unconsciously sneak a glance and check them out, and promptly feel really disgusted at yourself 2 seconds later? Yeah, that's exactly what happened to Chris.
But it has resulted in the Best ChrisFace Ever!
. . . yeah I'm sorry. I know its been 7 months since you seen hide or hair of Sunshine and Happiness and when I finally do resurface, its with this shit. I'm really sorry guys, please forgive me.
As for the comic, I'm not too pleased with how it came out. It was mildly rushed and not up to my standards :<
I'll stop whining now.
I do however really like the 2nd panel of Aug in full on normal person wear. Then I covered it up with word balloons haha!
I think I missed drawing this comic so much I may have put in unnecessary ChrisFaces. What can I say, they're fun to draw.
Friday is gratuitous Augustine hotness day!
Sorry its been a while. I posted up 2 comics in the last 4 weeks since my last post here. And one of them isn't even really a comic. Here's what I think about them.
The comic page sucks. The end on that one.
The title page is a whole different matter though. This has been the first time that I not only could picture what I wanted the final product to look like, but I knew just how to do it. It really was a fun process and the finished picture I think came out exactly how I wanted it too. A little bit here and there could be better but I'm not going to be bothered to fix them so nyeh XP
Panel 3 is brought to you by Yotsuba! Don't know what it is? Look it up.
I am not exactly happy with the art in the comic today. I think Chris is too tall and his face is too long. Maybe I just miss drawing Trent. And Sandra's hair isn't right. But god damn I love that face in Panel 3!
Also, not a big fan of the script. Neither todays or Wednesday's. They're uncommonly tender for normally bitingly sarcastic Chris. He loves his sister though. Thats my only excuse.
But here's what I did with SaH this weekend: productivity and bitching. The productivity was me adding pictures to the LJ mood theme. I'm trying to put at least one face in from every page in there. I did get distracted but oh well. The bitching was about my materials. The pencil I sketch the comic with is about half an inch long right now and the pens I ink with are dying slowly. And I'm broke. I am rectifying this problem to make my life easier.
Well hopefully there will be a comic up Wednesday *fingers crossed* And a title page for this chapter on Friday. Until then: keep each other sane!
